Privacy Policy
Last updated: 3 August 2026 (v1.1.5)
SmartGo Charge ("the app") is developed by dBR Promotions. This policy explains what data the app collects, how it is used, and how it is protected.
SmartGo Charge is an unofficial companion app and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or in any way officially connected to EDF Energy or EDF SA.
1. Data We Collect
SmartGo Charge stores only the minimum data required to operate:
- Your EDF Energy account credentials (email address and password) — used solely to authenticate with the EDF Energy API
- Your EDF account number and associated meter/tariff details — retrieved from the EDF API and cached locally
- Smart device information (vehicle make/model, charger make/model) — retrieved from the EDF API and cached locally
- A JWT authentication token — issued by EDF Energy upon login and stored temporarily for API access
- Smart charging session history (completed sessions) — retrieved from the EDF API and stored on your device so your history is preserved beyond the EDF API's 12-hour retrieval window
- Boost charge records, your tariff agreement history, and snapshots of the unit rates that applied on each date — stored on your device so historical sessions remain correctly costed after a tariff or price change
- Optional: if you enable a Glow Display and CAD, your Glow account credentials (username and password) and an authentication token — used solely to authenticate with the Glowmarkt cloud API
- Optional: if you enable a Glow Display and CAD, your electricity/gas resource identifiers and local MQTT broker settings (host, port, topic, and optional MQTT credentials) — used to retrieve near-real-time usage and live current readings
- Your device's Apple Push Notification service (APNs) token — sent to and stored on a server operated by the app developer, used solely to wake the app in the background so your Home Screen widgets and charging data can refresh. See sections 2 and 4.
- If you add a Home Screen widget: a second, separate APNs push token specific to the widget — sent to and stored on the same server, used solely to wake the widget itself in the background so it can refresh independently of the main app. See sections 2 and 4.
2. How Your Data Is Stored
Almost all data is stored locally on your device only. The exceptions are your device's APNs push token and, if you add a Home Screen widget, a separate widget push token — both sent to and stored on a server operated by the app developer (dBR Promotions) solely to enable background refresh — see below and section 4.
- Your EDF account credentials and API token are stored in the iOS Keychain, encrypted by the operating system with
kSecAttrAccessibleWhenUnlockedThisDeviceOnly protection
- Account, tariff, and device information is cached in the app's local UserDefaults storage on your device
- If enabled, your Glow account credentials, Glowmarkt token, and MQTT password are also stored in the iOS Keychain with the same protection; your Glow username, resource IDs, and MQTT broker/topic settings are stored in local UserDefaults
- Your device's APNs token, and the separate widget push token if you add a widget, are stored on a server operated by the app developer, associated with no other personal data — not your name, EDF account, or any charging data — and used only to send silent wake-up pushes. See section 4.
- The app writes no other data to iCloud, third-party analytics services, or any remote storage. The one further exception is a backup file, which is only ever created when you explicitly ask for one and is saved wherever you choose to send it — see section 6.
3. How Your Data Is Used
Your data is used solely to:
- Authenticate with the EDF Energy Kraken API on your behalf
- Display your smart charging schedule, preferences, and tariff information
- Cost your charging history against the unit rates that applied on the date of each session
- Send charging control commands (boost, suspend/resume, set preferences) to your registered smart device via the EDF API
- Optional: if you enable a Glow Display and CAD, authenticate with the Glowmarkt cloud API and/or connect to a Glow Display and CAD on your home network via local MQTT, to display near-real-time usage and live current on the Dashboard and Usage screens
- Send a silent push notification to your device to wake the app in the background, so it can refresh your Home Screen widgets and charging data even when the app isn't open
- If you add a Home Screen widget, send a separate silent push notification directly to that widget, so it can refresh independently of the main app
SmartGo Charge does not use your data for advertising, analytics, profiling, or any purpose beyond the above.
4. Third-Party API Access
SmartGo Charge communicates directly with the following third-party services operated by EDF Energy:
- Kraken GraphQL API — for account data, device preferences, and smart charging control. All requests are authenticated using the token issued at login.
- EDF Products REST API — for electricity unit rate and standing charge data. This endpoint is publicly accessible and no personal data is sent.
Use of these APIs is subject to EDF Energy's own terms of service and privacy policy.
SmartGo Charge also communicates with a server operated by the app developer (dBR Promotions, the same developer, not a third party):
- Push notification service — on launch, the app registers your device's APNs push token with this server. The server uses it only to send silent, content-free wake-up pushes via Apple's Push Notification service, prompting the app to refresh in the background. No EDF account data, credentials, or charging history is ever sent to or stored on this server — only the device token itself.
- Push notification service (widgets) — if you add a Home Screen widget, it registers its own separate APNs push token with the same server, used only to send silent wake-up pushes directly to the widget so it can refresh independently of the main app. As with the main device token, no EDF account data, credentials, or charging history is ever sent alongside it.
If you optionally enable a Glow Display and CAD, SmartGo Charge additionally communicates with:
- Glowmarkt Cloud API — for authentication and retrieval of near-real-time energy usage, using your Glow account credentials. This is entirely optional and only active when configured in Settings.
- Local MQTT (Glow Display and CAD) — if configured, your device connects directly to a Glow Display and CAD on your home network to retrieve live current readings. This communication stays entirely on your local network and is never sent to the app developer or any third party.
Use of the Glowmarkt API is subject to Hildebrand's own terms of service and privacy policy.
5. Data Sharing
SmartGo Charge does not share your data with any third party beyond the EDF Energy and (if optionally enabled) Glowmarkt APIs described above. Your credentials and account data never leave your device except as part of authenticated API requests made directly to EDF Energy's or Glowmarkt's servers, local MQTT communication with your own Glow Display and CAD on your home network, or your device's APNs push token(s) — the main app token, and the separate widget token if you add a Home Screen widget — sent to the developer's own push notification server described in section 4. Your credentials are never shared under any circumstances, including in a backup file you export yourself (see section 6).
6. Backups You Create
SmartGo Charge lets you export your charging history to a backup file so it survives a reinstall or a move to a new device. Backups are created only when you choose to create one — nothing is exported automatically, and no backup is ever uploaded anywhere by the app.
When you tap Settings → Backup & Restore → Back Up Data, the app writes a plain-text JSON file and hands it to the standard iOS share sheet. From there you decide where it goes — Files, iCloud Drive, AirDrop, Mail, or any other destination you pick. Once the file leaves the app it is outside the app's control and is covered by the privacy policy of wherever you send it.
A backup file contains:
- Completed charging sessions, including any edits you have made to them
- Boost charge records
- Your tariff agreement history and the unit-rate snapshots used to cost past sessions
- The app version and creation date of the backup
A backup file never contains:
- Your email address, password, or any authentication token — for EDF or for Glowmarkt
- Your EDF account number or MPAN (your meter point identifier, which can identify a physical address)
- Your cached tariff or device details
These are excluded deliberately, precisely because the file is designed to leave the device. Everything omitted is retrieved again from EDF the next time you sign in, so nothing is lost by leaving it out. Restoring a backup only adds data that is missing — it does not overwrite sessions already on the device, and it does not sign you in.
7. Data Deletion
You can remove all locally stored data at any time:
- Settings → Backup & Restore → Delete App Data — permanently removes all credentials, cached account data, and charging history from your device, including any Glowmarkt credentials and settings. Your EDF Energy and Glow accounts are not affected.
- Settings → Log Out — clears your saved credentials and session token only, leaving your charging history in place
- Deleting the app from your device removes all data stored by the app. Your device's push token(s) — the main app token and, if you had one, the widget token — are also automatically removed from the developer's push notification server once Apple reports them as no longer valid.
Backup files you have already exported are not affected by any of the above — they live wherever you saved them, and you must delete those yourself.
To delete your EDF Energy account itself, please contact EDF Energy directly at edfenergy.com/contact. SmartGo Charge does not create or manage EDF accounts.
8. Data Accuracy
All data displayed by SmartGo Charge — including charging sessions, tariff rates, and estimated costs — is sourced directly from EDF Energy's APIs at the time of the last refresh. This data is presented as-is and may not always reflect the most current state of your account.
- Estimated costs are calculated using tariff rate information provided by EDF Energy and are intended as a guide only. Actual charges on your bill may differ.
- Charging session history is limited to data made available by the EDF API and stored on your device. Sessions not captured within the API's retrieval window may not appear.
- Always refer to your official EDF Energy bill or online account for accurate and definitive billing information.
The developer of SmartGo Charge accepts no responsibility for discrepancies between information shown in the app and data held by EDF Energy.
Home Screen widgets specifically can lag further behind than the app itself. Widgets refresh via a background wake-up push rather than a live connection, and iOS itself imposes a limited daily refresh budget per widget plus its own delivery timing for background pushes — in practice a widget can be up to around 15 minutes behind, sometimes more, even when the main app has fresher data. Each widget shows the time its data was last refreshed so you can judge how current it is. Because of this lag, do not rely on a widget alone to judge whether you are currently in a peak or off-peak period, or what your live/current electricity usage is — open the app for the most up-to-date view before making a decision based on peak/off-peak timing.
9. Security
Your credentials are stored using the iOS Keychain with kSecAttrAccessibleWhenUnlockedThisDeviceOnly protection, meaning they cannot be accessed when the device is locked and are not included in iCloud backups.
10. Children's Privacy
SmartGo Charge is not directed at children under the age of 13 and does not knowingly collect data from children.
